Women who own land or farm in Boone or Greene County are invited to attend one of two Women Land and Legacy (WLL) listening sessions Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Leonard Good Center in Ogden.
“Women, Land and Legacy programs are especially helpful for women landowners who may be facing transitions in their lives or are wanting to be more involved with the soil health and conservation practices on their land,” said Greene County farmland owner Chris Henning.
WLL is a bottom-up, locally led USDA education and outreach program. A local team is made up of agency staff, partner organization members as well as local women landowners and farmers. WLL listening sessions give participants the opportunity to inform the local team of what their strengths and needs are and to share ideas about how agencies and organizations can better assist them.
Lori Schnoor, Jackson County NRCS district conservationist will facilitate the Jan. 23 listening session. Schnoor has been a part of her local WLL team for the past 15 years. Schnoor said, “WLL has been a very safe and welcoming environment for women to share information and ask questions. Women who have been involved see they are not alone in the issues they face as women landowners and developing a network of other women who can answer questions or know where to go for answers has been very positive”.
The information gathered at the listening session will help guide the team in planning future programs and events to assist Boone and Greene County women in obtaining their farming and conservation goals.
“Women Land and Legacy is an opportunity to reach out to a group that represents at least half of the landowners in the county, many of which we do not regularly see in the service center,” said Boone County NRCS district conservationist Jeremy Johannsen
Participants have the option to attend one of two Women Land and Legacy listening sessions at the Leonard Good Center in Ogden, an afternoon session from 1-3 or an evening session from 6-8.
